We couldn’t get most Democrats to say the word fascism in 2024, so we’re in no shape to fight it.
Yet.
Fascism isn’t some kind of unicorn. It’s a common ideology that exists all over the world on the far right of the spectrum and existed here in the 1930s right up until Pearl Harbor.
Most of the world’s most prominent historians, including Sir Richard Evans who study the Nazis have said what we are seeing devolve out of traditional US conservatism has elements of fascism and authoritarianism. Robert Paxton even came around to it.
Also, despite claims to the contrary, the military leadership of our country is virtually all Republican. Our top generals say it’s fascism. These are not Cassandra type people!
You can see that MAGA is a fascist movement because it differs from traditional American conservatism.
Trad Conservatism:
Limited government
Free markets
Internationalism
Diversity & multiculturalism
Secularism in government
MAGA:
Imperial president
Tariffs
Isolationism
Nationalism
Church as state
History does not replicate like DNA, it echoes. American fascism is quite different than the Nazis, but is not different from today’s modern fascist movements in EU. Elon found this out when he googled the AfD in Germany and fell in love because its platform is the same as MAGAs. Oops!
Finally, for those of you who think Kamala Harris ran on this issue (threats to democracy) you are wrong. The ad data don’t lie. The only message normal voters will ever hear from a campaign are paid ads they are forced to see. Stump speeches don’t set messaging. Paid ads do
Also, don't blame the DNC Chair. He tried to lead by example but you can't lead to a place people they won't follow you too.
Those who have read Shirer's Rise & Fall know what Hitler did to Germany's labor union leaders who opposed him after he won.
What's your best guess that fascist-lite Trump will do to his opposition now that he's returning with total immunity?
